About the Course:

Seeking employment in hospitality in NSW?
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to responsibly sell, serve or supply alcohol.
Responsible practices must be undertaken wherever alcohol is sold, served or supplied, including where alcohol samples are served during on-site product tastings. This unit therefore applies to any workplace where alcohol is sold, served or supplied, including all types of hospitality venues, packaged liquor outlets and wineries, breweries and distilleries. This course consists of the following modules:
- Introduction to RSA
- Module 1: NSW liquor laws
- Module 2: Intoxication
- Module 3: Minors
- Module 4: Harm minimisation strategies and approaches
- Module 5: Compliance and enforcement

1 Day Classroom
Be Qualified offer this course in a total of 9 hours. The total hours for this course includes the all learning and practical activities undertaken by the students including any reading and participation in all assessments.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
If you are currently an overseas student on an International Student Visa you are welcome to enrol into this course with Be Qualified as we are CRICOS registered (No. 03478D).
Entry Requirements:
- Students must be 18 years and over
- Successfully complete the enrolment process including LLN assessment
- Hold a valid government issued photo identification card
- Have access to a PC/laptop with speakers, microphone
- Have access to high speed wifi or cable capabilities necessary to research, upload and download documents
- Have access to a PDF reader
- Hold sound computer skills
- Have Windows 10, Mac OSX High Sierra, iPad IOS10 or higher
- There are no pre-requisites, however, this RSA course requires sound English language, literacy and numeracy skills in order to complete the course and assessments.
- For example, students will need to calculate the amount of standard drinks in a range of beverages such as beer, cider, wine, spirits and cocktails.
- Prior to commencing the course, students complete an online Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) test that will identify the students learning needs and allow Be Qualified to provide the student with learning support and resources needed.
- Students are encouraged to contact the learning centre to talk to one of our student support team members if they require any further information.
- Students can enrol into this course if they have never held an RSA competency card or if their competency card has expired for longer than 28 days.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):
RPL/ Credit Transfer is not available for SITHFAB021 Provide Responsible Service of Alcohol. However‚ if the student has completed an RSA course and have been deemed Competent within the last five years and their RSA Card is about to expire they are required to complete an RSA Refresher course. If students have completed SITHFAB021 in another state and wish to work in the Liquor & Gaming industry in NSW they will be required to complete a Bridging course which can be accessed by going to: https://www.liquorandgaming.nsw.gov.au

Learning Outcomes:
- Demonstrated the skills and knowledge required for serving alcohol in a responsible manner as specified under NSW legislation.
- State the importance of their role in minimising alcohol related harm in their workplace and local community.
- Identify symptoms of intoxication and assist customers to drink within appropriate limits.
- Assess alcohol affected customers and demonstrate refusing service in respectful manner.
- Demonstrate the skills and knowledge required to manage and prevent minors from consuming alcohol including checking IDs and secondary sales/supply.
- State harm minimisation strategies and approaches including trading hours, signage, advertising and sales promotions.
- Demonstrate knowledge of compliance and enforcement of NSW liquor laws and the consequences of non-compliance.
Qualification and Career Outcomes:
- Students obtaining a competency for this course will be awarded the Statement of Attainment for SITHFAB021 Provide responsible service of alcohol and an Interim RSA Certificate within 2 business days.
- To obtain the RSA competency card, the student will be required to take your interim RSA certificate along with 100 points of ID to a Services NSW Office and complete an application.
- The Interim RSA Certificate can be used to commence work and is valid for 90 days. After 90 days an RSA competency card must be presented to work in any licenced premise.
